Show Your Support for Chris Krystalowich
Chris Krystalowich has been living with a progressive kidney disease for the past 7+ years and 2 years ago his doctors recommended receiving a kidney transplant as soon as possible. They told Chris that while dialysis would certainly help him short term, a transplant was the best medical treatment option.
The wait time for a deceased donor kidney only starts once you are on dialysis and the wait time for his blood type was over 7 years. Chris was advised to find someone who may be willing to donate a kidney to him prior to needing dialysis. Chris reached out to friends and family and was fortunate to have people from all areas of his life volunteered to be tested to be a live kidney donor.
In January of 2019, the search for Chris’s donor came to an end…his sister-in-law, Robyn Goodlad, was a match! Robyn had completed the required tests and their date was scheduled for the transplant. On Monday, March 18th, 2019 Robyn and Chris checked into St. Paul’s Hospital in Vancouver for the surgery that would change both of their lives forever.
Post-transplant, Chris has returned to a normal way of life including working, traveling, playing inline and ice hockey, and spending time with his wife Anita and their daughter Kayden.
Robyn returned to work within weeks after the transplant surgery. She has enjoyed life as it was before donating her kidney including international travel, renovating her house in Port Coquitlam and getting engaged to her fiancé Clay!
Chris and Robyn are committed to volunteering and raising funds for the Kidney Foundation, Green Shirt Day, and the Renal Transplant Unit through the St.Paul’s Foundation. Their primary venue for fundraising is the Hublot Diamond Rally, Canada’s largest supercar charity rally. They are celebrating the one-year anniversary of their surgeries by telling their story and participating in the Hublot Diamond Rally!
